SAMPLE RESIDENT SURVEY
Survey Purpose:
The aim of this survey template is to gather data from your community to guide the development of an inclusive vision for recycling and waste management education and infrastructure. It is designed to be customized for your city, county, township, or organization. Success means input from a representative sample of your audience. The survey is a key opportunity for residents to influence and shape the changes they want to see in their recycling and waste diversion education efforts. Survey results can also be used to help sell your program to local officials. Please refer to our Behavior Change Guide for examples of how to use research to inform your survey design.
When creating your own survey questions:
- Know your goals and ask questions that provide meaningful data that help you achieve the goals of the survey.
- The final survey should be fewer than 10 questions, mostly multiple choice, with one open-ended question. Question count excludes optional demographics questions.
- Carefully consider wording. Watch this video to create questions that result in unbiased answers.
